Practicum requirements
- 225 clinical hours are required with a nurse educator who has an MSN in nursing. These hours will be required during the practicum and mostly will be in direct student contact. No more than 10% of the hours will be used as prep time.
- Orientation: It is important for student and preceptor to understand that the best learning happens while doing, not observing.
- Teaching and lesson plans, as applicable. Students will present all lesson plans to the preceptor including pertinent articles to support teaching interventions and evaluation strategies of lesson plan. These alsowill be shared with practicum instructor.
- Student will document hours and experience in a log and verified by the preceptor. Students will write reflections of their learning experiences in Canvas. Student documentation of clinical hours (verified by preceptor) will be uploaded into Canvas and sent to practicum instructor via email.
- Performing procedures, as appropriate.
- Evaluations of the student by preceptor will be expected at mid-semester as a formative review, then resubmitted at the end of the practicum as a summative review. Students will be responsible for directly linking their experiences to suggestions made at midterm by both preceptor and the instructor from the formative evaluation. Clear examples of how the student met those suggestions will be expected in the evaluation.
