Mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) graduates are eligible for ANCC board certification in advanced psychiatric–mental health nursing practice and can treat patients across the lifespan in a wide range of settings. Graduates find employment in hospitals, private practices, school-based clinics, community mental health centers, and tertiary care specialty clinics.
A coordinator who is a certified PMHNP across the lifespan oversees this APRN specialty track. The PMHNP track consists of 525 hours of direct, hands-on patient care in a psychiatric–mental healthcare setting under the supervision of an experienced preceptor. Through community partnerships, IUSON offers consistent clinical placement for PMHNP students. Preceptors include board-certified PMHNPs, psychiatrists, and other related mental-health providers practicing within the field of psychiatry. The PMHNP courses are taught on campus by experienced PMHNP faculty thereby ensuring quality, oversight, and relationships with students and community-based preceptors.
