Adult gerontology primary care NP

The Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) program, through an interprofessional approach, prepares students as advanced practice providers who can manage acute and chronic primary health conditions in individuals ranging from adolescence through young, middle, and aging adulthood. Our students have clinical experiences in a wide variety of clinical settings including hospital-based large academic outpatient clinics, retail clinics, extended care facilities, private practice and outpatient specialty clinics, and specialty practices.

AGPCNP are eligible to sit for either the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioner (AANP) certification examination.

The AGPCNP track is 42 credit hours, consisting of 525 direct patient contact clinical hours under the supervision of a licensed preceptor practitioner. Preceptors include advanced practice registered nurses (NPs), geriatricians, specialty physicians, medical physicians and doctors of osteopathy who practice in primary care settings, and physician assistants. Experienced AGPCNP faculty teach the track's hybrid (a mix of face-to-face and online) courses and many of the faculty maintain a clinical practice.

A post-master’s certificate as a AGPCNP also can be achieved and requires a minimum of 16 credit hours. A gap analysis is performed to determine which courses will be required for students to sit for the certification examination.
